If you love riding pristine graded gravel in straight lines, this is your route. I did it over 2 days, but there is no reason why someone fitter couldn't do it in one. There are cattle troughs along the route that you can get sketchy water from, but I opted to stash water about halfway. There are a few sections of road riding, The one on the north end was an accident. I got off route and ended up hitting the highway further north than I wanted. You could easily avoid it. The few miles down nere Hiko on the southern end are unavoidable, and the last 12.5 mile stretch back to the starting point could also be avoided, however I was tired and wanted to be finished. Note. Once you get to Hiko, you cross through an archway that says no trespassing for a very short section. This is an easement that goes back to some other houses. You're fine to ride on it. Also note that the last couple miles on this track just east of Hiko canyon before you hit highway 93 is sand and I had to walk for a bit. There could be a better road that keeps you off the highway for longer and isn't sand, but I didn't look for it. The last stretch on highway 93 is a bit sketchy because there is no shoulder and a bit of traffic. Really this area has loads of perfect gravel riding that you could link into as big a day as you wanted. The monument doesn't see a ton of traffic so the roads aren't washboarded, however if you venture off the main gravel roads you will encounter quite a few goat heads and some rougher terrain.
